ADHD and Its Subtypes



As we all know, ADHD is a familiar and widespread childhood disorder. ADHD usually is detected during childhood and possibly will continue up to their teenage life until adulthood. There are subtypes for ADHD with their own patterns of behavior. However, the usual symptoms are being hyperactive, loss of focus and concentration, and having difficulty in controlling their behaviors.

Here are the subtypes of ADHD and their corresponding outline of behaviors:

Predominantly hyperactive - impulsive. The inattentive type of ADHD.

The common symptoms are:
Incapability to pay attention or having focus on things they do and the details of it. They usually create mistakes in their school works and activities carelessly.
Their listening problem is noticeable.
They have difficulty in following instructions and doing things in an organized manner.
They do not like to do detailed work. Instead they like to do a task that doesn't require mental effort.
They are forgetful and tend to lose their things like their things at school, toys, and even their own daily routines or activities.


Predominantly inattentive. This is the hyperactive - impulsive type of ADHD. Usually, the children under this subtype are less probably has difficulty of having friends. They frequently choose to sit alone quietly but not paying attention to what they are actually doing. Because of this behavior, the teachers and even parents have the possibility to ignore these symptoms and overlooked ADHD.

The common symptoms are:
They have difficulty in remaining in their own chair.
They manifest too much running and doing hyperactivity actions.
They are uneasy and usually have shyness behavior.
As they play, they have difficulty keeping quiet.
They usually talk excessively that they exclaim out answers before they hear the whole question.
They usually interrupt conversations impolitely.

Combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive. This is the combined type of the two subtypes of ADHD and is known as the most common subtype.

It is certainly challenging and need a lot of effort in raising and rearing an ADHD child. However, be aware that they don't intend to do these negative things at all.

Those with ADHD have difficulties in this area of their life and they need full attention, understanding and love.
